Polka Dots Yay or Nay????

Hey my fellow thriftanistas if you have been reading any fashion magazines or keeping up with the style blogs you know that polka dots are one of the hottest trends for the season. If you are thinking as one of my girlfriends said ” dang didn’t we do polka  dots already”, you would be correct. I have said this before and I will say it again ALMOST ALL FASHION REPEATS ITSELF. If you are saying to yourself I didn’t wear polka dots the first go round, how do I incorporate them into my wardrobe now? That’s where I come in. Below you can view my latest video.  This video is the Look for Less: Polka Dot Edition. I will show you how to incorporate some polka dot into your wardrobe for $10.00 or less. Keep in mind that my blog and video’s are designed to show you all some ways that you can ROCK current trends. However I do know that not every trend is for every body. Hell not every trend is for me. Just remember that fashion is about creating your own style, so don’t be afraid to try something different. Have a fabulous thrifty day.

What Does a $2.00 Shoe Look Like?

Hey, my fellow thriftanistas I hope you all are having a fabulous Friday. I apologize for not posting this past week but HECTIC life was going on all around me. Sick babies, crazy meetings, long late night conversations  ( well that wasn’t so bad) and just being exhausted was what my week consisted off.  I was really upset that I was unable to bring you guys stories from my recent thrifting adventures. However have know fear THE THRIFTY FASHIONISTA is here (what can I say my son likes Underdog). I have a lot to catch you up on, but I will start with my fabulous find of the day. Let me start by saying this is NOT a thrifted item. I do shop retail occasionally. Ultimately I will go wherever there is a deal to be had. However because shopping thrift has made me so frugal (CHEAP), it has to be one hell of a steal. Which brings me to this question. Do you all know what a brand spanking new $2.00 pair of shoes looks like? Well I didn’t either until the other day. Check out the FABULOUS black stiletto’s with zebra print fabric that I scored from Simply Fashion for $2.00.

BAMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!

Now you know I could not leave those in the store. I can already see myself going out looking hot in those for 1 good hour. My knees are bad so that is all they will last. It’s cool though because at least I will look fabulous walking in. It was so funny because I don’t think the manager even remembered that they were down there. When I brought them to the register he said ” Girl don’t tell nobody you bought some $2.00 shoes from here, they will mob the store to see if we have  anymore”. I told him don’t worry it would be our little secret. Okay so I told a little white lie. You all know I don’t keep anything THRIFTY a secret. Any-who my loves I just wanted to check in. Up next polka dots, polka dots, polka dots. More blogs and videos coming soon. Until next time my fellow thriftanistas.

Do You Shop Off-Season????

For me shopping off-season is one of the best ways to shop. It allows me to get FABULOUS fashions for next year at rock bottom prices.  In order for stores to make room for Spring and Summer merchandise the winter fashions MUST GO. With Spring fast approaching  now is the time to take advantage of the great clearance sales going on in your local stores. You can also find some great winter blow outs online. Now I am sure you are thinking wait I can’t believe THE THRIFTY FASHIONISTA has not mentioned thrifting . Well if  you have been reading my blog you know I don’t ever post anything that doesn’t talk about THRIFTING. So here we go! I was recently asked the questions “do thrift stores have winter clearance sales too?”. The answer to this question is YES. Thrift stores like other retail stores are trying to transition to their spring and summer merchandise, so winter items MUST GO.  Just the other day I took advantage of Unique Thrift Stores $10.00 winter bag sale. How the sale worked is that when you came into Unique Thrift Store they gave you one of their large bags. You could fill the bag up with any winter coats, sweaters, scarves, hats and boots. You had to fit as much as you could in the bag without it tearing and the cashier had to be able to close it.  Then you took it to the register and the whole bag was $10.00. Yes I said it $10.00 for everything in the bag. HOW CAN YOU BEAT THAT? I got some fabulous things and am well on my way to having  next years HOTT winter wardrobe. Now if your thinking,  how do you know that stuff will even be in style next year? I don’t…….. but I don’t CARE, I bought what I LIKE. I create my own STYLE. Besides from season to season fashion may have a few major new trends but a lot of staple items stay the same. You all are probably shaking your head at the computer thinking “it is warm so I don’t want to shop for winter clothes. However you have to trust THE THRIFTY FASHIONISTA these are some sales you don’t want to miss. Check out my video below to see what fabulous things I found at the winter bag sale. I hope it inspires you to do a little WINTER shopping of your own. Until next time my Thriftanistas.

The Look For Less: Sequins Edition

Hey my fellow thriftanistas, I hope you are having a fabulous, thrifty Monday.  In a previous blog I told you that I would be doing a style series called the Look For Less. My goal is to bring you all fabulous thrifted looks for $10.00 or less. I will also film segments of my thrifted looks for my Youtube channel. In the video I will break down the pieces one by one and show you how I turned my awesome finds into a show stopping ensemble. On my latest edition of the Look for Less I took FABULOUS sequins pieces I found at the thrift store and created three distinctly different and dynamic looks. Check out the video below to see how I ROCK Sequins. My goal is to let the world know it does not matter how much it cost……..what matters is how you put it together.

The Look for Less: Red Carpet Edition

Happy hump day my fellow thriftanistas. I am going to keep today’s post short and sweet. Awards season has just ended and although I don’t really watch all the shows I definitely keep up with the FASHIONS. There were some absolutely gorgeous gowns on the red carpet this year. On the flip side there were some monstrosities that made me want to go ask the stylist what the HELL where you thinking???? Okay but I digress back to the fabulous. One of my favorite looks of the 2012 awards season was Viola Davis in that beautiful green Vera Wang mermaid gown. She looked regal, beautiful, flawless and I LOVED that she rocked her natural hair. If it sounds like I am gushing over this women……… it’s because I AM. I think she represented true HOLLYWOOD glamour. Which brings me to my look of the day. I gave myself a CHALLENGE. I wanted to see if I could put together a Red Carpet ready look for $10.00 or less. I wanted a bright beautiful color like Mrs. Davis and was even inspired to start fresh and rock my natural hair. Watch the video below to see how I got red carpet ready for $8.35+ tax. Tell me what you think. I would also love to hear what your favorite red carpet look was from this season.

I AM ADDICTED TO THRIFTING!

I am a self-proclaimed thrifting addict. If there was a meeting to go to I would have to stand up and say “hi my name is Joslyn and I am a thrift-a-holic”. The good and I guess the bad part of this is that I am okay with my addiction. Thrifting gives me a thrill, puts a smile on my face, keeps me and my family looking fabulous and saves me some much-needed money. I also enjoy the hunt! I know it may sound crazy to some but I get the greatest high when I purchase a $60 or $70 item for 2 bucks. In addition by recycling clothing I am doing something good for my planet. Okay I know you are all thinking this sounds great but don’t addictions have a bad side? The answer to this question would be YES. Downsides to a thrifting addiction can be hoarding and over shopping. The way to avoid these things is by purging. For every set of new items you bring in your house there should be something that goes in the donation pile. You are one person so there is only so many fabulous items you need at one time. Also when you are shopping keep in mind what you already have in your closet. Thrift Stores have so many fabulous finds that it can be easy to buy the same style item several times over. I unfortunately have this problem quit often. With that being said I recently decided I wouldn’t do anymore thrifting until I purged some of the fabulous thrifted items I already had. This included cleaning out my children’s over stuffed closets. I did not thrift for 1 week and I tell you it was TORTURE. However 1 week and 5 big garbage bags later and I was ready to thrift again. I went on my first thrifting excursion on Friday. I bought some FABULOUS items and spent $18.00. THE THRIFTY FASHIONISTA IS BACK! Hey, what can I say I told you I was ADDICTED. Are you addicted to thrifting? I would love to hear your story. Until next time have a fabulous thrifty day.
